SBS-Modified Bitumen.
Torch-Applied. Multi-Ply.

Torch-applied roofing uses an open flame to fuse an SBS-modified bitumen cap sheet to a base sheet, creating a monolithic waterproof bond across the entire roof surface. The heat melts the underside adhesive of the cap sheet, ensuring 100% adhesion with no air pockets or voids.

Preferred for demanding low-slope applications, torch-applied systems deliver multi-ply redundancy, exceptional waterproofing, and a walkable surface that stands up to foot traffic and mechanical equipment. Decades of proven performance in extreme climates make it a trusted choice for contractors and building owners alike.

Why Contractors Trust Torch-Applied
  • IKO Certified Installer — Diamond Shield Warranty available
  • Premium materials from IKO and Soprema
  • Fully adhered application — no air pockets or voids
  • Multi-ply redundancy — built-in backup waterproofing layer
  • Self-healing in heat — minor damage seals itself in warm weather
  • Exceptional waterproofing — monolithic seal across the entire roof

The Cap Sheet, Up Close.

SBS-modified bitumen with a crushed-mineral granule surface — armour against UV, hail, and foot traffic. At every lap the bitumen is torched to a controlled melt, squeezing out into a continuous waterproof weld.

Why Choose Torch-Applied.

Fully Adhered Application
The open-flame torch process creates 100% adhesion between layers with no air pockets or voids. Every square inch of membrane is fused directly to the substrate for maximum waterproofing integrity.
Multi-Ply Redundancy
The base sheet and cap sheet work together as a redundant waterproofing assembly. Even if the top layer is damaged, the underlying ply continues to protect the building from water intrusion.
Exceptional Waterproofing
The torch-fused bond creates a monolithic seal across the entire roof surface. No seams, adhesives, or tapes that can fail over time — just a continuous, watertight membrane.
Self-Healing Properties
SBS-modified bitumen softens in warm weather, allowing minor punctures and surface damage to seal themselves naturally. The membrane’s flexibility works in your favour over time.
Walkable Surface
The granule-surfaced cap sheet provides a durable, textured surface that handles regular foot traffic from maintenance crews, HVAC technicians, and building inspectors without damage.
Proven Track Record
Torch-applied modified bitumen has decades of proven performance in the most demanding climates worldwide. Building owners and contractors trust it for reliable, long-term waterproofing.

Ideal For.

Torch-applied modified bitumen excels on low-slope applications where fully adhered waterproofing and multi-ply redundancy are essential. Its durability and walkability make it ideal for a wide range of building types.

Torch-Applied in the Okanagan.

The Okanagan Valley presents unique roofing challenges. Torch-applied modified bitumen’s multi-ply construction and SBS polymer flexibility make it exceptionally well suited to handle every one of them.

Snow Load Performance
Okanagan winters bring heavy wet snow that tests every roof system. The multi-ply torch-applied assembly handles sustained snow loads without delamination, providing reliable waterproofing all winter long.
🌡
Freeze-Thaw Durability
Repeated freeze-thaw cycles crack rigid materials, but the SBS polymer in torch-applied membranes stays flexible through extreme temperature swings. The fully adhered system prevents water migration even during rapid cycling.
Summer Heat Advantage
Okanagan summers bring intense heat that activates the self-healing properties of SBS-modified bitumen. Minor surface damage seals itself naturally, and the granule surface provides UV protection year after year.

Torch-Applied FAQ.

A professionally installed torch-applied SBS modified bitumen roof typically lasts 20–30 years. The multi-ply construction and fully adhered application create exceptional durability. With regular maintenance and inspections, many torch-applied roofs exceed their expected lifespan.
SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) is a synthetic rubber polymer added to asphalt to create a flexible, durable roofing membrane. The rubber modifier gives the membrane exceptional elongation and recovery properties, allowing it to stretch and return to shape through temperature cycling without cracking.
When performed by certified professionals using proper safety protocols, torch application is very safe. Our crews follow strict hot-work procedures including fire watches, proper clearances, and fire extinguisher placement. We carry full insurance and all technicians hold valid torch-applied roofing certifications.
Yes — this is one of torch-applied roofing’s greatest advantages. Damaged areas can be patched with the same material by torching a new piece directly over the repair area, creating a permanent, fully adhered fix. No special adhesives or sealants are needed.
Absolutely. SBS modified bitumen excels in the Okanagan climate. Its rubber-modified composition handles freeze-thaw cycling without cracking, the multi-ply construction provides excellent waterproofing during spring snowmelt, and the granule-surfaced cap sheet resists Kelowna’s intense UV exposure.
